VALERIE ALBERTO

Prior to joining Haughton, Dubose & Nezami in 2021, Attorney Valerie Alberto served as an Attorney Advisor for the Social Security Administration for over a decade, advising Administrative Law Judges, drafting Title II and Title XVI adjudications and researching legally complex issues. She received performance awards nearly every year during her tenure, completed a detail as Supervisory Attorney and was promoted to Senior Attorney Advisor.

Valerie has focused her law practice exclusively on criminal defense as of 2021. She specifically devotes her practice to the underserved area of parole representation. She fiercely advocates on behalf of inmates seeking parole and intervenes in cases of parole violations, while patiently guiding anxious families through the often Kafkaesque parole process. Since Valerie joined Haughton, Dubose & Nezami, the firm has been named one of the top parole-dedicated firms in the state of Texas. 

 

She attended the University of California at Berkeley and the University of St. Thomas for undergrad, obtaining a Bachelor’s of Arts in History (magna cum laude). She earned a Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law in 2011. She has done volunteer work in a legal capacity for both the Innocence Project and Lone Star Legal Aid.
